Many people are consulted for a prominence on the heels, which also tend to have some unsightly calluses. It usually occurs mainly in people who have used very rigid shoes with spurs, which cause frequent rubbing. The continued friction is a stimulus for bone growth. In other patients the cause is  having a prominent posterior tuberosity of the calcaneus bone, thus causing the appearance of the lump.

 
The treatment of this problem is often the removal of this prominence, restoring the normal contour of the heel. Recovery is usually rapid, within three to four weeks there should be healing of the small incision that is performed to remove excess bone.
